A new challenge

This year I have set myself a new running target. For a couple of years I have run the Race for life 5k. With Stephanie's success at the 5k I was prompted to commit to something I have been thinking about, I signed up to run the 10k race for life.
I am an erratic runner, I enjoy it when I manage to convince myself to do it. I started my training regime this week, I loosely use the NHS couch to 5k to train. I have completed 2 runs this week, I didn't go for one today and spent the rest of the day feeling guilty! The plan tells you to run every other day however I like to try and go everyday as I really enjoy the half hour outside and it is a great start to the day.

I have 4 1/2 weeks until my race, I managed to run non stop for 20 minutes yesterday I estimate that was about 2 miles. It is hard to tell the distance as during the week I run round and round my block. I am planning on going for a longer run at the weekend when Stephanie is with her Dad.

What challenges have you set yourself for this year??

We did it!

Today Stephanie and I completed our first race for life together. Stephanie has been very excited about doing this. we set the target of raising £30 for charity from this run. Stephanie was ecstatic yesterday when I told her we had managed to raise £50!
Here she is getting ready

writing the message to go on the back of her shirt.

So pleased with herself, but very puffed out.

I'm very proud of her. I ran at the pace Stephanie set she mixed walking and running- at times very fast and completed the 5k race in a  fantastic time of 40mins 08 seconds.
She had adults coming over after we finished to shake her hand and congratulate her, they had been running near to us and were amazed at how well she did. Not bad for a 7 year old!

I couldn't be more proud of my baby. Although she says she's not running that far ever again LOL but her medal is already in her bag to take into school and show her teacher tomorrow.
However, not long after the race Stephanie told her cousin all about the local mile run coming up at the end of July, apparently we will be doing that one.

Children and post

Children love it when they get post through the front door. I don't remember when it changed from being excited to receive post to groaning when there is unexpected post on the doormat. I am guessing it was somewhere around the time I realised I was no a grown up.

Today was a very exciting post day for Stephanie. She received her race for life post. This Sunday we are Racing for life in memory of Stephanie's Nan (my Mum) and 2 great Nan's, all of whom died recently(within the last 2 years) from cancer.

I have complete the race twice in the past. Last year Stephanie joined me for the last 100m or so, but this year she is determined to complete the whole race and run all the way. I have no doubt she will make it to the end, and run a large portion of it as she is very determined not sure where she got that trait from ;-)
